The sun is out, the trees are covered in green and humans aren't the only thing
stirring. Green Bay's collection of wildlife viewing opportunities make it
easy for children of all ages to experience Green Bay's wild side, where
lions, tigers and bears are just the beginning.
One of Northeastern Wisconsin's top family
attractions, the N.E.W.
Zoo features animal species from Wisconsin, the United
States and the world. Laid out in a variety of naturalistic
habitats including Wisconsin, Northern Trails, North American Plains,
Africa and Australia, the N.E.W. Zoo offers a glimpse into
the lives of wallabies, lions, otters, mountain lions, bobcats,
black bears, baboons and penguins. Children love the opportunity
to get up close and personal with a giant tortoise, white-tailed
deer, goats and reindeer in the children's petting zoo.
Created in 1935 with a handful of injured
waterfowl, the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary continues to help
rehabilitate more than
2,000 injured, orphaned or sick animals each year. Visitors
can observe a variety of native Wisconsin animals including
geese, ducks, wolves, cougar, bobcat, otter, white-tailed deer
and coyote while wandering along six and a half miles of hiking
trails that weave throughout the 700-acre park. The sanctuary's
nature education center offers an assortment of hands-on exhibits
as well as an art gallery, estuary room and gift shop.
