It’s
that time of year again. The weather is getting colder, the
days shorter and soon it will be time for all those hunters
to head to the woods leaving the women behind to miss the fun.
Yeah right! Deer hunting weekends are one of the best times
of the year for a girls’ day (or two or three) on the
town, and Packer Country has plenty of ways for any deer hunting “widow” to
live it up.
Start the fun off with a shopping adventure
through Packer Country’s lineup of spectacular shops,
galleries and malls. Take to the quaint main street shops of
Two Rivers. Explore the unique shops and Italian café of
Netto Palazzo in Algoma or search for that perfect gift at
Geppetto’s Top of the Hill Shop in Kewaunee. And nothing
tops off a day of shopping fun quite like a stop at the von
Stiehl Winery (1-800-955-5208) for a bit of wine tasting.
As
the sun sets, the nightlife in Packer Country begins. Located
on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the Weidner
Center for the Performing Arts (1-800-922-9272) hosts
a variety of Broadway performances, music and arts events.
Legendary star Tony Curtis takes to the stage, November 19-24,
for the musical adaptation of the classic film “Some
Like It Hot,” and the enchanting beauty of Rogers and
Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” will thrill audiences,
November 29-30.
For theater of a different type, gather the
girls and head to Frank’s
Dinner Theatre (920/330-9901) at the SC Grand Banquet
and Convention Center. Enjoy the tastes of great food and then
take a look inside the thoughts of men as the American Players
Theater performs “Guys on Ice,” the touching musical
comedy of two ice fishermen, November 19-23.
Looking for a little more excitement to help
forget about the guys? Then head over to the flashing lights
and winning sounds of Oneida
Casino & Bingo (1-800-238-4263). Take a seat at
the high stakes bingo tables, try your luck on the slots and
video poker games or show of the skills at the blackjack tables.
After that, tickle your funny bone with a stop at Green
Bay Comedy City (920/432-9374) for some of the best
stand-up comedy in the state.
