Fine arts and family fun take center stage
as Artstreet 2001, celebrates its 20th year on the downtown
streets of Green Bay from August 24-26.
More
than 200 juried regional and national artists exhibit exquisite
works of ceramics, glass, fiber arts, graphic art, jewelry,
painting, photography and much more for visitors to view and
purchase. Artist demonstrations offer insight into the delicate
creative process and give some visitors the chance to get hands
on.
Four live entertainment stages help create
a festive family atmosphere with the rich sounds of blues,
jazz, folk, classical, as well as theater and dance performances.
Visitors can even check out some of the best local performing
arts on the community stage.
Children
and parents alike will find plenty of reasons to smile at Artstreet's
children's area. Kids of all ages can try their hand at creating
their own masterpieces with hands-on activities including paper
hat workshops, refrigerator magnet making and painting. And
laughter is sure to fill the summer air as clowns, jugglers
and magicians take to the children's stage for daily performances.
All this fun is certain to create some rumbling
tummies, but a stop at the edible arts area will quiet those
growls with an array of ethnic foods and delicious creations.
Taste buds are sure to get a work out with traditional fare
including hamburgers and brats and ethnic specialties such
as Australian barbecue, gyros and crab rangoon.
Admission to Artstreet is free, and parking
is available at a variety of city parking lots and ramps, as
well as city streets. For more information on how to get into
the fun, call the Northeastern Wisconsin Arts Council at 920/435-2787.
