Algoma Presents a “Celebration of the Senses”
at the Annual Wet Whistle Wine Festival
Algoma, Wis.
September 5, 2006
Algoma, WI – Von Stiehl Winery and the Community Improvement of Algoma present the fifth Wet Whistle Wine Fest on September 23 & 24 as a chance to get silly and grape juice soaked in the annual harvest grape stomp.
Any individual over 21 can enter for a chance to get messy by stomping grapes to compete for pride and wine prizes. In each round or “heat”, stompers will compete for audience approval to move on to the finale. Costumes and creativity are encouraged.
Those too bashful to stomp are invited to enjoy a “celebration of the senses” through other fest activities. Guests can pair wine with specialty foods, take in a (no-admission) fine art fair, soak in some super summer-ending tunes, play wine games and partake in wine tasting all weekend long.
Highlights include a special “Salute to Sausage” breakfast on both mornings at the Farm Market Kitchen. Activities after breakfast on Saturday will include a celebrity stomp off at 11AM, music by the Groove Hogs in the afternoon and the Grand Grape Stomp-Off at the end of the day.
The festival will run Saturday 10AM to 6PM, and Sunday 10AM to 4PM between the Algoma Marina and von Stiehl Winery in Algoma, 35 minutes east of Green Bay. The $5 admission is good for one or both days. Children 12 and under are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
