Meyer Theatre to Host Unique Screenplay Reading
Green Bay, Wis.
August 23, 2006
Green Bay, WI –The Meyer Theatre in downtown Green Bay will be the site for the reading of the screenplay for “Missing Gene,” a movie screenplay written by Green Bay native Bernie Van De Yacht. The screenplay reading, which is free and open to the public, will take place Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.)
“This is truly a unique cultural event for the Green Bay area,” said Kari Sliva, President/CEO of Packer Country Visitor & Convention Bureau. “It’s an exciting project.”
"Missing Gene" is the story of Gene Kozlowski, a Green Bay man who is missing the sports gene. That, of course, is a big problem in a football crazed community like Green Bay, particularly since Gene’s father is considered the Packers #1 fan. “Missing Gene” is a comedy about faith, family and football, set during the Super Bowl season of 1996.
Eight actors from the Los Angeles area will participate in the screenplay reading, along with well known local talent, including Max Frost, Frank Hermans and Paul Evansen. Input from the reading will be valuable to Van De Yacht as he puts the finishing touches on the screenplay.
“It’s fitting that the screenplay reading takes place on the eve of Artstreet, which will put the arts in the spotlight in downtown Green Bay throughout the weekend,” Sliva said.
