Algoma Shanty Days adds UW Marching Band and Milwaukee Brewers Racing Sausages to Schedule

Algoma, WI - Visitors to next weekend’s annual Shanty Days “Celebration of the Lake” in Algoma will experience a couple of bonuses this year with the addition of the UW Marching Band and Milwaukee Brewers Racing Sausages to Saturday’s parade line-up.

The Shanty Days festival officially kicks off Friday afternoon on the main grounds overlooking the Algoma harbor, and Saturday will lure crowds of people to the event’s annual parade. This year the parade will offer all the favorites, plus the energizing and famed UW Marching Band and the comedic Milwaukee Brewers Racing Sausages.

Taking great pride in Shanty Days ongoing focus of family fun, it’s no surprise that event sponsors saw a great fit in adding the legendary band and mascots to the festival’s parade. “The addition of the UW Marching Band and Milwaukee Brewers Sausages is a great testament to the state-wide attention Algoma receives for this annual family festival”, said Pam Ritchie, Algoma Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “Each year Shanty Days welcomes thousands of visitors, treating them to entertainment and activities for every taste and age group all weekend long.”

Festival attendees on Saturday and Sunday will also experience the Art Show and Street Fair, covering a four-block area and featuring more that 150 vendors. A spectacular fireworks display at dusk on Sunday caps off the three-day event.

Pre-festival activities begin on Thursday, including the start of the four-day Shanty Days Fishing Tournament. Friday morning features the Friends of the Library annual book sale beginning at 8 a.m., followed by the Mayor’s honoree luncheon at noon.

Admission to Shanty Days is $5 at the gate, with kids ages 11 and under free of charge. Presale admission buttons are available for $4 prior to the event at the Algoma Visitors Center and local financial institutions.
