It’s a Summer of Music in Packer Country

GREEN BAY, Wis.
June 5, 2006

Green Bay, WI –The summer outdoor music scene heats up in June with a wide range of musical styles and events of all sizes throughout Packer Country.

“Whether it’s Summer in the Park, the new location for International Bayfest, the concerts at the Old School or the brand new festival, Summerpalooza, there’s something for everybody,” said Katie Green, Director of Marketing for the Packer Country Visitor & Convention Bureau. “It’s really exciting to have so many outdoor entertainment options to enjoy throughout the summer in Packer Country.”

A sampling of the outdoor music events in June includes:

  • Summer in the Park features performances each Thursday (11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.) at Jackson Square in Green Bay. The series runs through August, with The Mango Brothers performing this Thursday, June 8.

  • The Music on the Green concert series at Heritage Hill State Historical Park in Allouez features monthly concerts. On July 10 River City Six, a Dixieland band specializing in New Orleans/Chicago style jazz, will perform. Music on the Green concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

  • June 7th is the start of the Summer Concerts at The Old School in Mishicot. The Wednesday evening concerts begin at 7 p.m. and continue throughout the summer.

  • International Bayfest makes its downtown Green Bay debut June 9-11. After more than two decades on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus, the event this year moves to the area’s newest festival grounds, Leicht Memorial Park on the riverfront in downtown Green Bay. Musical highlights for International Bayfest include Cherry Monroe, Fahrenheit 420 and the Johnny Wad band. A children’s stage and a cultural stage are also featured.

  • Look for Summerpalooza to rock the Brown County Fairgrounds the weekend of June 16-18. The three-day music fest boasts a line-up of local, state and national talent, including Big Mouth and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

  • ShopKo Fireworks Celebrate Americafest will again provide for a full day of entertainment in downtown Green Bay on the Fourth of July. More than one dozen popular bands will perform from 1 - 11 p.m.

  • A fleet of Tall Ships® will grace the shorelines of downtown Green Bay during the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival July 27-31, with live concerts on the festival grounds among the many entertainment elements during the four-day event.

“And that’s just some of the summer entertainment on the schedule in Packer Country,” Green said. “There are sounds for virtually all musical tastes and some outstanding outdoor venues to experience in Packer Country.”
