GREEN BAY , Wis.
May 15, 2006
Green Bay, WI – Get your sea legs ready! The 2006 Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival in Green Bay will not only offer a great chance to see 14-16 Tall Ships™ close up, you’ll also have a chance to sail on these majestic beauties.
The Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival is July 27-31, 2006 on the riverfront in downtown Green Bay. Overnight Sailaway Packages for three of the vessels are now available exclusively through the Packer Country Visitor & Convention Bureau Web site at www.packercountry.com. The packages include a selected 90-minute sailaway into the Bay, a one-day general admission pass to the Tall Ship Festival and one night’s stay at an area hotel.
You can experience the thrill and excitement of “living history” on Providence, Windy II or Appledore IV. Each of the vessels offers a unique sailing experience.
- Providence, Providence, RI – The Continental Sloop Providence is a 110’ traditionally rigged sailing vessel and a faithful replica of John Paul Jones’ first command. During her distinguished Naval career, the 12-gun Providence sank or captured 40 British enemy ships! The ship also plays a starring role in the upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Providence overnight sailaway packages begin at 3:30 p.m.
- Windy II, Chicago – Built of modern materials, but like the old training schooners and sailing ships, the Windy II has all the character and charm of the great days of sail. This 150 foot long vessel is the first U.S. Certified four-masted barquentine since 1921. Windy II overnight sailaway packages begin at 5:00 p.m.
- Appledore IV, Bay City, MI –The 85 foot topsail schooner's mission is to foster environmental stewardship of the Great Lakes ecosystem and to provide opportunities for learners of all ages through shipboard and land-based educational experiences. The Appledore IV overnight sailaway packages are available at 1:30 Sunday, July 30 only.
While sailaways are available on many of the Tall Ships™ throughout the festival, the Overnight Sailaway Packages are exclusively available through the Packer Country Web site and offer an opportunity to get a selected sailaway, hotel stay and festival admission all together.
In addition to the sailaways, the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival includes tours of 14 Tall Ships™. Festival visitors will also enjoy daily entertainment, including live bands period re-enactments, food, maritime merchants, refreshments and more. The festival will stretch along downtown Green Bay’s waterfront on both the east and west banks of the Fox River and includes three villages. Each will be lined with Tall Ships ™ from Wisconsin Public Service Corporation grounds to the shores of Admiral Flatley Park and across the river to Leicht Memorial Park (AT&T Village).
