Packer Country Hopes to Score with New Sports Facility Guide
GREEN BAY, Wis.
January 5, 2006
Greenleaf, WI – Mention sports venues in Packer Country and the first thing to come to mind is historic Lambeau Field. What most people don’t realize is that Packer Country is also home to dozens of sports facilities that can host a wide range of events.
A new resource is now available for anyone looking to stage a sports event in the area. It’s the Sports Facility Guide, hot off the presses from Packer Country Visitor & Convention Bureau.
Joel Everts, PCVCB Sports Sales Manager, says the area’s reputation is growing as a place to hold statewide, regional and even national sports events. “The Women’s National Hockey Championships and the ASA Girls Softball National Championships are two great examples of sporting events that took place in Packer Country for the first time in 2005,” Everts said. “A year ago we also had the NCAA Volleyball Regional at the Resch Center, which will also host the NCAA Division I Hockey Midwest Regional in March.”
The Sports Facility Guide provides information for event planners and others about the many excellent sports venues in the area. The 24-page guide includes a wide range of information on more than 65 sports venues.
“If you consider all of the top-notch sports facilities in Northeast Wisconsin, I think you’ll be amazed,” said Kari Sliva, Packer Country President and CEO. “Of course, everyone knows about Lambeau Field. People also think immediately of the Resch Center and the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena. But there are many other excellent facilities throughout Packer Country that don’t garner as much attention.”
The Sports Facility Guide is similar to PCVCB’s Meeting Planners Guide, which provides information about the area’s meeting and convention facilities.
“Staging a national sporting event in Packer Country is very attractive to many organizations once they realize what facilities are available,” Everts said. “We can provide outstanding sports venues, as well as a small town feel and hospitality that is second to none. That’s a great combination.”
Sliva adds that the range of sports facilities is impressive. “From soccer fields to ice rinks to baseball diamonds to high school field houses, this area really has some tremendous facilities,” Sliva said. “The sports facilities and the area’s other accommodations provide a wonderful mix that helps make Packer Country a desirable destination for an increasing number of large sporting events.”
