Packer Country Plays Host to Statewide Bowling Tourney

GREEN BAY, Wis.
September 8, 2005

Green Bay, WI – Nearly 1,500 women from throughout Wisconsin will converge on Packer Country over the course of five weekends, starting Friday, September 30, 2005. The women will be competing in the Wisconsin Women’s Bowling Association (WWBA) senior tournament taking place at Willow Creek Lanes in Bellevue.

“Players are coming from throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula to compete in the tournament,” said Packer Country Visitor and Convention Bureau Sports Sales Manager Joel Everts. “On any given weekend during the tournament, about 450 senior bowlers will be in town to compete.”

The tournament features a doubles/singles format and includes five divisions based on age. Participants must be age 55 or older and will have to bowl three games with a partner and three games as an individual. “The best combined score determines the winner in each division in doubles,” explains Senior Tournament Manager Pat Tebon. “There will be a lot of excellent competition and the winners will receive cash and medal awards.”

More than thirty-six local players will be competing in the tournament. All event winners in each division will also receive paid entry into the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Senior National Championships.

The location of the tournament was determined by the WWBA Board of Directors with input from the individual community bowling associations. “We’re really excited that we were chosen as the host community,” Tebon said. “We have an excellent facility for bowling and there are plenty of fun things to do in the community when you’re not bowling.”

The winners of the tournament will be announced following the final day of competition on October 30th. The Green Bay Women's Bowling Association board of directors will be providing workers for the tournament office and score keeping throughout the tournament.
