Packer Country’s ‘Mobile Welcome
Center’ sets up at Camp
GREEN BAY, Wis.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (July 28, 2005) –
While Lambeau Field, Home of the Green Bay
Packers, has become a year round tourist
destination, the annual pilgrimage known
as Packers Training Camp is underway, bringing
throngs of football fanatics to Packer Country.
This year, the Packer Country Visitor and
Convention Bureau is debuting a new Mobile
Welcome Center to provide information on
the area to fans from out of town.
More than 100,000 people are expected to
visit Green Bay now through August 28th
to see the Packers practice at Clarke Hinkle
Field across from the stadium. Most practices
are open to the public, and fans visit from
around the world to watch their beloved
Packers gear up for the season.
“Training Camp is the official kick-off
to football season, and it’s also
the time when our tourism industry rolls
out the red carpet for visitors from around
the world,” said Kari Sliva, Packer
Country Visitor & Convention Bureau
President/CEO. “Our new Mobile Welcome
Center is yet another way Green Bay is demonstrating
its spirit of hospitality.”
The Packer Country Mobile Welcome Center
will be staffed by Packer Country’s
MVP Volunteer Corps. The Mobile Welcome
Center has various displays, including pamphlets,
brochures and a video on area attractions,
special events and things to do during a
visit to Packer Country. It will be stationed
between the Brown County Veterans Memorial
Complex and Clarke Hinkle Field on Oneida
Street throughout Training Camp.
The Packer Country Mobile Welcome Center
began as a small group project of Leadership
Green Bay, a program of the Green Bay Area
Chamber of Commerce.
In a continued partnership, the Green Bay
Area Chamber of Commerce became one of the
sponsors of Packer Country’s Mobile
Welcome Center. “The welcome center
provides a nice presence at major events
like Training Camp and offers easy access
to information for visitors to the area,”
said Chamber President Paul Jadin. “We’re
happy to be able to help sponsor this new
endeavor and support Packer Country’s
tourism promotion efforts.”
Additional sponsors include PMI, Downtown
Green Bay, Inc., Prevea, St. Vincent Hospital,
Margarita’s, Packer Fan Tours, Wisconsin
Public Service Resources Corporation, Ticket
King and Paul’s Trailer and RV Center,
Inc.
Leadership Green Bay project members included;
Sliva; Ian Griffiths, Berners-Schober Associates;
Paula Hafeman, St. Vincent Hospital; Kelly
Koehler, Schneider National; Theresa Patnode,
Wisconsin Public Service; Greg Urban, City
of Green Bay Police Department; and Jodi
Willson, Waukesha County Technical College.
Training Camp officially began as the Packers
rookies and first year players reported
on Monday with the first rookie practice
on Tuesday. The veterans reported yesterday
with the first full-squad practice tomorrow.
Training camp continues until August 28th,
although practices are closed during the
final week of preseason.
“Just as Green Bay is unique in the
NFL, the training camp experience in Packer
Country is unlike any other in professional
football,” Sliva said. “The
month-long training camp has a tremendous
impact on the area, pumping an estimated
$35 million into the area economy.”
Highlighting the 2005 training camp will
be the two-day visit of the Buffalo Bills.
The Packers will host the Bills for two
practices, as well as the ‘Family
Night’ scrimmage at Lambeau Field
on August 5th.
