AJGA Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series Comes to Packer Country
Fox Hills to Host Tournament August 8-11
GREEN BAY, Wis.
July 23, 2005

GREEN BAY, Wis. (July 23, 2005) – More than 95 junior golfers from throughout the country will tackle the National Course at Fox Hills Resort in Mishicot for the 2005 AJGA Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series August 8-11. It will mark the first time that Fox Hills has hosted an American Junior Golf Association event.

“This is another tremendous event to welcome to the area,” said Kari Sliva, Packer Country Visitor & Convention Bureau President/CEO. “The competition will feature some of the nation’s best young golfers, including a dozen Wisconsin youngsters. The Green Bay area will have representatives in both the boys and girls competitions.”

The Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series is a collection of 10 events specifically designed for boys and girls from 12 to 15 years old. The tournaments provide an opportunity for younger members to develop their skills and earn entry into open tournaments. The series concludes with an invitation-only Nike Golf Junior Championship, September 2 - 4, 2005 in Aurora, Oregon.

Area golfers participating in the tournament at Fox Hills include: Maureen Liddy of Green Bay, Richard Hearden III of Green Bay, Erik Mayer of Appleton and Ryan Prickette of Neenah. Hearden, Mayer and Prickette are among more than 70 boys competing in the tourney.

Liddy says she’s eager to participate in the event. “I think it will be tremendous to go against golfers from all parts of the U.S.,” Liddy said. “It should be a real learning experience for everyone involved.” The 15-year-old Liddy will be among more than 20 girls competing in the tournament in Mishicot. Liddy, who will be a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay this fall, was part of the varsity girls golf team that qualified for the state golf tournament last school year.

“The Nike Junior Golf Tournament is a perfect fit for our new emphasis on attracting new sports events to the region,” said Joel Everts, Packer Country Sports Sales Manager. “It’s another indication that planners now recognize Packer Country as a great venue for a wide range of sports related events.”
