NFL EXCITEMENT BUILDS IN PACKER COUNTRY
Green Bay, Wis.
(July 24, 2002)
The familiar sounds of cheering crowds and hard-hitting action
are beginning to fill the air as the Green Bay Packers open
their summer training camp to the delight of NFL fans from
July 24 to August 28.
"The start of the Green Bay Packers' season is a truly
exciting time of year in Packer Country. Thousands of the
best NFL fans in the country visit the area to cheer on our
green and gold, creating an atmosphere full of energy and
fun," explains Nancy Jones of the Packer Country Regional
Tourism Office.
Packers fans from across the country fill the bleachers and
line the fences for the opportunity to get an up close and
personal vantage point of some of their favorite players as
they sweat through two-a-day practices full of drills, conditioning
and scrimmages. Many fans show up early to find the best viewing
spot for the free practices.
The action starts on July 24 as the rookies and first-year
players take to the field for an afternoon practice. Returning
veterans join the rookies on July 27 as the team begins two-a-day
practices. Morning practices run from 8:45-11:25 a.m., with
afternoon practices generally running from 2:15-3:15 p.m.,
or from 2:45-4:10 or 4:40 p.m. This year, practices will rotate
between Clarke Hinkle Field, found just east of Lambeau Field,
and Ray Nitschke Field located across the street from the
Resch Center on Packer Drive on a periodic basis.
Of course, the Green Bay Packers fun isn't limited to the
on-field action. Located across the street from the practice
fields in the Brown County Veterans Memorial Complex, The
Packers Training Camp Experience gives fans of all
ages the
- more -
opportunity to get into the game with a variety of interactive
football events and games. (920/405-1141) Try the Extra Point Kick, run the tackling
dummies, or the obstacle course and celebrate success with
Leap into Lambeau. Fun for the whole family, The Packers ExperienceÔ
is open July 22 to August 24 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday,
and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m.
